Sail
Sail is a cooperative trick-taking game for two players, in which you must decipher your partner’s intentions and play cards that, when combined, allow you to advance your ship or defeat the kraken. Created by Akiyama Koryo and Kozu Yusei, and illustrated by Weberson Santiago, Sail offers 20-minute games for two players, ages 11 and up. The objective is to guide your ship to its destination without being destroyed by the kraken.
To begin playing Sail, set up the board according to the chosen scenario. Each player selects a pirate card with a powerful ability, the main deck is prepared using numbered cards from 3 to 9, and the kraken deck is also set up. The game consists of 5 rounds (or fewer). You may talk and plan your strategy between rounds, but once the cards have been dealt, you can’t communicate again until the final trick of the round is played.
As in other trick-taking games, the player who leads determines the suit to be followed. The highest card of the same suit wins the trick. If the cards played form a combination of symbols (helms, kraken tentacles, whale tails, or cannons), a special action is triggered. These actions may move the ship, cause damage, or attack the kraken.
If you coordinate well, each trick will bring you closer to your goal. But a lack of synergy may plunge you into turbulent waters. Whether you're a fan of cooperative games or card games, Sail will fit perfectly into your game collection. Packaged in a small box and offered at a low price, it's a great game that will challenge you with increasingly difficult scenarios.
